Valve ha rilasciato ufficialmente la patch 6.86 per Dota 2, denominata Balance of Power! Tale patch introduce un nuovo eroe, Arc Warden! La Q di questo nuovo eroe permetterà di rallentare un nemico e di infliggergli danno nel tempo nel caso non sia vicino ad un alleato, la W permetterà di potenziare gli alleati garantendogli evasione e velocità d'attacco, la E permetterà di evocare uno spettro che cercherà un nemico da impossessare, infliggendogli danno magico Infine la ultimate permetterà di creare un clone di Arc Warden che potrà utilizzare tutti gli oggetti e abilità di Arc Warden, con tutti gli oggetti e abilità pronti all'uso.

La patch introduce l'arcana per Zeus che include un modello totalmente rifatto, nuove texture, animazioni, effetti e suoni per l'ultimate, un nuovo effetto di morte per i nemici uccisi dall'ultimate, un suono speciale per l'uso del blibk dagger, un nuovo portrait, hero icon, icona della minimappa e icone delle abilità. Inoltre l'arcana introdurrà un nuovo doppiaggio e degli effetti particellari.
Per i possessori del Compendium 2015 verrà finalmente introdotta la mappa desertica (con un music pack dedicato), mentre - disponibile per tutti, vi sarà una nuova versione desertica della Custom Mode ufficiale "Colosseum". Migliorate anche le impostazioni grafiche con la possibilità di selezionare delle ombre avanzate per eroi, terreno e creep.
Sono stati anche applicati diversi cambiamenti positivi alla interfaccia introdotta con Dota 2 Reborn, come un accesso rapido all'arsenale, nuove statistiche delle singole partite e sull'uso degli eroi nel profilo ed è stato introdotto un nuovo tipo di chat privata.

La patch 6.86 ha applicato dei cambiamenti fondamentali a quasi tutto il roster di Dota 2, oltre a cambiamenti generali al gioco e al terreno. Prima di tutto è stata modificata parte della mappa, quella vicino alle rive del fiume centrale, e la modifica della giungla che ora vede la comparsa di un nuovo campo dei neutrali vicino ai negozi segreti. È stata aggiunta una nuova runa Arcana, che permette di ridurre per 50 secondi i cooldown e i costi di mana delle proprie abilità.

Sono stati reworkati anche diversi eroi: Faceless Void perde la sua odiata passiva "Backtrack" e guadagna una nuova abilità attiva (Time Dilation) che gli permette di rallentare la velocità di attacco e di movimento per ogni abilità nemica in cooldown e di congelare il cooldown di tali abilità; la Death Prophet perde la sua passiva "Witchcraft" (i suoi miglioramenti sono stati introdotti direttamente nelle rispettive abilità) ed è stata introdotta una nuova passiva,"Spirit Siphon", che crea un collegamento tra la Prophet e il bersaglio, assorbendo una % della vita del bersaglio al secondo e rallentando il suo movimento; Riki si trova con una nuova ultimate, "Tricks of the Trade", che gli permette di sparire per 5 secondi e di continuare ad attaccare i nemici attorno, la vecchia ultimate viene integrata nella invisibilità permanente; Lone Druid perde la propria passiva, "Sinergy", ed ottiene una attiva che permette di spaventare i nemici, costringendoli a scappare verso la propria fontana; Doom perde la propria abilità basata sui livelli e guadagna una passiva ad autocast sull'attacco (con un funzionamento uguale alla Jinada o alla Tidebringer) che infligge ministun e danno da fuoco che infligge danno in % sulla vita massima infine Silencer perde la sua Q "Curse of the Silent" e guadagna la nuova abilità "Arcane Curse" che infligge danno nel tempo e si prolunga per ogni abilità lanciata.

Diversi cambiamenti anche allo Scettro di Aghanim, con molti eroi su cui viene introdotto (su Drow Ranger, Bristleback, Kunkka e Magnus) e con molti eroi il cui effetto è stato cambiato (Sand King e Pudge).

Sono stati inoltre aggiunti quattro nuovi oggetti: Un consumabile denominato "Faerie Fire", che incrementa il danno finché portato e può essere consumato per recuperare vita; la "Dragon Lance" che fornisce forza, velocità di attacco e bonus di danno oltre che ad aumentare il range di attacco degli eroi con attacco a distanza; la "Aether Lents" che fornisce resistenza magica, mana e rigenerazione di vita, fornisce inoltre un incremento alla gittata delle magie e un aumento del loro danno; La Iron Talon che offre armatura e i bonus della quelling Blade.

Quasi tutti gli eroi hanno subito significativi cambiamenti, anche se spesso non si tramutano in un cambio netto come avvenuto agli eroi reworkati, vi invito a leggere il changelogs sotto riportato per avere tutti i dettagli. Notare che sono state cambiate anche meccaniche base quali hli HP base per le unità eroiche, cambiamenti anche a Roshan e alle giungle.
Cambiamenti anche alla Capitain Mode, con Oracle, Terrorblade e Earth Spirit disponibili in tale modalità ma con la rimozione degli eroi appena modificati profondamente quali Death Prophet, Faceless Void e Doom.

    The Armory has been moved from within the Heroes tab to its own top level button (next to the quit button)

Updated ARDM game mode:

    Fixed various ARDM-related client crashes
    When selling items in ARDM, you now get 85% of the purchase price
    You can now see your next hero (and skill up) as soon as your current hero dies 

Fixes in the Steam client released on Thursday, Dec 10:

    Fixed a problem that could cause frame rate hitches, especially for players subscribed to a large number of hero guides
    Added a mechanism to Steam for Dota to tell it when you are in a match, so Steam should not patch the game. Steam never downloads updates to the game, or custom game items that have already been completely installed, once you launch Dota. This change ensures that Steam will also not update Dota if you exit the game or crash and try to relaunch Dota. 

    Added an option for specifying whether you always want to hear the default respawn music, even when using a music pack
    Private lobbies can now set how pause is available in game: Unlimited where any player can pause, Limited where players have limited amount of pauses, and Disabled for no pauses allowed
    Added a new targeting UI for unit-AOE abilities

SFM

    Character picker now previews and creates item-specifc particle snapshots, instead of always using the snapshot from the base item (fixes Anti-Mage's weapon glows, for example)
    Fixed models with cloth collision volumes having bones incorrectly marked as procedural (Axe, Zeus)
